Through the social network X, the Foreign Minister recalled the crime perpetrated against Garcia and affirmed that Cuban revolutionary diplomacy ‘will stand firm against those who promote hatred and terrorism against our people’.

On 11 September 1980, a member of the anti-Cuban terrorist organization Omega 7 shot Garcia, who was accredited to the United Nations (UN), in a street in New York.

The Cuban diplomat thus became the first foreign representative accredited to the UN murdered in the United States.
