During a message broadcast on social networks, the president stressed that RT ‘says truths that others choose to keep quiet’, while praising its modern approach, attractive and away from the self-referential discourse that, in his opinion, characterizes many western media.
‘RT has opened its profile to the Global South, respects Cuba and allows us to show our truths to the rest of the world,’ said Díaz-Canel, who also highlighted the importance of having the channel’s signal in Spanish, accessible 24 hours for the Cuban public.
‘ For all these reasons, I congratulate RT in its 20 years, said the head of state, who concluded with a personal recognition: ‘RT, you like the Cuban very much. Congratulations’.
RT was launched in 2005 and during this time has become one of the world’s most popular international news channels, with a weekly audience of millions.
