Largest casino dance in Panama celebrates Cuban Culture Week

Panama City, Oct 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Culture Week in Panama will have one of its most anticipated moments this Saturday when a "rueda de casino" (a traditional dance in Cuba) is registered as the largest in this nation.

Luis Llamo, producer of Cuba’s Artistic and Literary Promotions (Artex) and better known in the industry as the Ambassador of Son, has been working for months to achieve this record.

Honoring the Caribbean nation’s historical and artistic richness, the celebration is especially dedicated to playwright and theater director Huberto Llamas (1944–2024) and the Timbalaye socio-cultural project.

It will bring together more than 100 dancers at Arco Chato in the ancient district of Panama City, during the highly anticipated “Cuban Night.”

The evening will feature a live performance by the popular Adalberto Alvarez y su Son orchestra, Afro-Cuban folklore exhibitions, a food fair, and artisanal products.

Led by Llamo and the Cuban Embassy in Panama, particularly Ambassador Victor Cairo, the initiative is part of the efforts to safeguard the Cuban son and its popular dances.

It has been preceded by workshops and practical lessons given to participating academies.

Cuban Culture Week in Panama, which has been expressed in art, film, and poetry, among other events, will conclude on Monday, October 20, in the Caribbean province of Colon, with a tribute to rumba and its fusion with Congo rhythms.

This event also commemorates the National Day of Panamanian Calypso.
