Insufficient or obsolete equipment, workplace stress, and police stations described in the press as “unworthy” are among the complaints.
The media are reporting stories such as that of a station in Perpignan dubbed the “Police Station of Shame,” and of officers working in areas flooded with sewage and infested with rats.
Among the police officers’ demands are increased material resources and infrastructure, and a stronger justice system in the face of crime.
Although this type of mobilization is unusual in France, it is not the first time that uniformed personnel have taken to the streets in an organized fashion to demand better working conditions.
