“Moscow categorically rejects and strongly condemns the illegitimate pressure and sanctions imposed on Havana.
Russia, in turn, is firmly committed to continuously developing cooperation and strengthening international stability,” reaffirmed the spokeswoman for Russia’s Foreign Ministry.
In particular, the diplomat emphasized that Washington has systematically employed a maximum pressure strategy against the Caribbean nation, which has lasted for more than six decades, aimed at its economic strangulation.
Russia’s position on this matter remains unchanged. Unilateral sanctions against sovereign and independent states, applied in violation of the UN Charter and other norms of international law, are categorically unacceptable, Zakharova emphasized.
“We strongly condemn the illegitimate restrictive measures against Havana and the pressure on Cuban leaders and citizens,” she added.
At the same time, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Russian authorities are convinced that, despite external obstacles to its development, Cuba will continue to maintain effective foreign economic relations.
The Russian side cannot accept attempts to obstruct international cooperation, “especially with a country facing a difficult socioeconomic situation, largely caused by the nearly 70-year-long US trade, economic, and financial blockade,” Zakharova insisted.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed to his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez, his country’s support in the face of the recent oil embargo imposed by US President Donald Trump.
