Ethiopia fosters commitment to Pan-Africanism by hosting summits

Addis Ababa, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia demonstrates its commitment to the Pan-African movement by hosting the 39th African Union Assembly 2026 and the 2nd Italy-Africa Summit, Fana Media Corporation highlighted on Friday.

Government Communication Service State Minister Tesfahun Gobezay, quoted by the press, noted that this year’s theme, “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063,” reflects Africa’s commitment to sustainable development.

Gobezay underscored that Addis Ababa continues to serve as a model for the continent through its active role in organizing such diplomatic events and its practices in favor of natural resource management.

Beyond diplomacy, the minister highlighted Ethiopia’s water resource management and environmental protection, citing the Green Legacy initiative, through which billions of tree seedlings were planted, increasing the nation’s forest cover from 17 to 23 percent.

The completion in September of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) further exemplifies this leadership, the official added, enabling regional energy integration and extending access to energy supplies to neighboring countries.

Regarding the historic nature of the 2nd Italy-Africa Summit, held on African soil for the first time this Friday, Gobezay recalled that it will focus on water, agriculture, energy, education, and health, providing a platform for Ethiopia to share its development experiences.
