Vietnam reaffirms support for Cuba amid US energy blockade

Hanoi, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) Voices of solidarity rose up here to reaffirm the Vietnamese people's support for Cuba in the face of the energy blockade imposed by an executive order from US President Donald Trump.

Representatives from the Vietnamese Alumni Club in Cuba, the Union of Friendship Organizations of Hanoi (HAUFO), and the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association visited the Cuban Embassy to demonstrate their unwavering support and to demand an end to the US economic, financial, and commercial blockade.

Concern for the difficult situation facing the island, further aggravated by what one of the Club members described as an “aggressive and cruel measure” by the US government, was expressed at the meeting, where the decision to continue—as has historically been the case—shoulder to shoulder with the Cuban people was made clear.

Based on fallacious arguments and lies, the executive order signed by Trump on January 29 “constitutes an unprecedented strengthening and escalation of the criminal blockade against the Cuban people,” Ambassador Rogelio Polanco emphasized.

The head of the Cuban state mission in Vietnam stressed that the threat of imposing tariffs on countries that supply oil to the island is directed against all nations, in flagrant violation of international law, the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, and the right to free trade.

Cuba, he reiterated, has every right to trade with the world and receive the fuel it needs for the functioning of its economy and daily life.

The Cuban ambassador also expressed his gratitude for the Vietnamese government’s stance regarding the aforementioned executive order, as well as its unwavering condemnation of the intensified blockade that successive US administrations have maintained against Cuba for more than 60 years.
