Music Festivals to raise funds for Cuba in Argentina

Buenos Aires, Feb. 20 (Prensa Latina) Holding music festivals to raise funds for solar panels, medical supplies, medicine, and food is one of the initiatives being promoted in Argentina by the organizers of the aid campaign for Cuba.

This was one of the agreements reached by representatives of some 36 popular, political, social, and labor organizations who met at the House of Friendship with Cuba in Buenos Aires to evaluate the progress of the campaign.

Alberto Mas, one of the directors of this solidarity center, highlighted that in just five days since this noble gesture was first publicized, more than 23 million pesos (US$15,646) have been collected.

“In these hard times that Argentina is going through, this response has been very positive,” noted Ruben Zaccaro, president of the Casa de Amistad (House of Friendship).

In Rosario, for example, solidarity groups are coordinating the “Urgent Song for Cuba” event. One of the participants proposed organizing one in La Plata, and another shared the idea of holding one in Quilmes, where a discussion is already being organized with representatives of groups from that important municipality in Buenos Aires province.

Along these lines, they decided to create the Festivals Committee, as well as the Campaign’s Communications Committee, with the latter’s objective being to focus its dissemination and promotion, as well as help counteract the media offensive against Cuba.

“It is important that young people actively trake part in all the activities that are organized, not only in the festivals, but also to learn about the reality of the conflict between the United States and Cuba and the harsh difficulties that our comrades in Cuba are experiencing.”

Today, there is also a blockade on truthful communication about Cuba, and much of the information that reaches students is distorted: “For me, that is fundamental.” And besides, considering that they are the future professionals, they are the ones who will generate awareness and solidarity at every stage of their careers,” the university union leader told Prensa Latina.
