In a joint statement to the press, the Brazilian president highlighted that trade flows exceeded US$15 billion in 2025 for the first time in history, and suggested revising the shared objective upwards to reach US$30 billion in the medium term.
“The meeting between India and Brazil is a meeting of superlatives,” stated the head of state, defining both countries as the two largest democracies in the Global South and as complementary powers: “the world’s pharmacy” and “the world’s breadbasket,” as well as leaders in digital transformation and renewable energy.
Lula remembered that in July 2015 he received Modi in Brasilia, where they restructured the bilateral agenda around five key areas: defense, food security, energy transition and climate change, and digital transformation and emerging technologies.
“Today, we are moving to action,” he emphasized after signing several agreements, including the Digital Alliance for the Future and the agreement on renewable energy and critical minerals.
The Indian Prime Minister, who values the relationship between the two nations, highlighted the importance of expanding the Preferential Trade Agreement between India and Mercosur to consolidate economic cooperation, as well as joint work in artificial intelligence, supercomputing, and semiconductors.
Regarding the energy sector, he noted that collaboration encompasses hydrocarbons, renewable energy, ethanol blending, and sustainable aviation fuels.
Lula’s visit to India also included the inauguration in New Delhi of the first office of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, aimed at promoting national products and services and attracting investment to strategic sectors.
