Daesh calls for combat against the Syrian government

Damascus, Feb 22 (Prensa Latina) The terrorist group Islamic State (Daesh in Arabic) urged its fighters to challenge the new Syrian authorities in its first audio message released in two years.

According to its spokesman, Abu Hudhayfah al-Ansari, members of the organization in Syria must focus their efforts on fighting the current transitional government and make that confrontation their priority.

The group’s last public statement was in January 2024, in response to the war unleashed by Israel in Gaza Strip following the events of October 7, 2023.

In the recording, the spokesman accused the head of the transitional government and his forces of what he called “apostasy,” while calling on armed factions to abandon its ranks.

He also urged his supporters to prepare for combat and intensify actions against government forces, claiming that the political change in Syria in December 2024 was, in his words, a “Turkish-American farce.”

He further asserted that Syria is under foreign influence and accused the interim president of acting as Israel’s “border guard.”

In 2014, the organization seized vast territories in Syria and Iraq, where it committed massacres and subjected women and girls to sexual slavery.
