Dominican left to march this Sunday for national sovereignty

Santo Domingo, Feb 22 (Prensa Latina) Dominican left-wing political organizations will march for sovereignty and the rights of the people, departing from La Trinitaria Plaza, at the Duarte Bridge, in the capital.

In a press release, the Communist Party of Labor (PCT), the Dominican Popular Movement (MPD), the Caamanista Movement (MC), Force of the Revolution (FR), the Homeland for All Party (PPT), and the Dominican Leftist Reference (RID) reaffirmed their call to participate in the mobilization.

In addition to demanding the restoration of national sovereignty, participants will demand the right to self-determination and the defense of the social, economic, political, and cultural rights of the Dominican people.

The organizations emphasized that the march has been embraced by various groups, coordinating bodies, coalitions, and social movements as part of the activities for the Month of the Homeland.

The march will also pay tribute to independence heroes such as Juan Pablo Duarte, Francisco Alberto Caamaño, and Gregorio Luperon, and will be held in protest against what they describe as the “growing US military intervention in ports, airports, seas, coasts, and borders,” demanding its withdrawal from the Caribbean region.

The planned route will cover streets in the Villa Francisca, San Anton, San Miguel, and San Lazaro neighborhoods, continue through the Colonial City and along El Conde Street, and conclude at the Caamaño statue in front of Independence Park.
