Latin American countries stand with Cuba in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, Feb 22 (Prensa Latina) Representatives from Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela in Ethiopia reaffirmed their governments' support for Cuba, amidst a solidarity campaign that continues in rejection of the United States' blockade against the Caribbean island.

The Mexican ambassador in Addis Ababa, Alejandro Estivill Castro, expressed his gratitude for participating in the solidarity event organized by Ethiopian friendship associations formed in Havana and affirmed that the heart of Mexico is and always will be with Cuba.

For his part, the Colombian ambassador, Yeison Meneses Copete, emphasized that the connection between peoples is the only way to face the current challenge. He denounced the aggressiveness of Washington’s extraterritorial policy, which puts many lives, the right to sovereignty, and the community and tranquility of the region at risk.

Meneses Copete further emphasized that this is an attack on all the progress made in human rights, while also thanking the organizers for the invitation to the event to reject the unilateral measures against Cuba.

The Venezuelan ambassador to Ethiopia, Eddy Cordova Corcega, called for raising voices of denunciation and breaking the media silence surrounding what is happening in Cuba. In this regard, he invited people to replicate the solidarity actions throughout the African nation.

He considered the Cuban people’s experience of resistance an example for the rest of the world. The Cuban Revolution has long been saying what the path is: no to imperialism, and any support for imperialism is an attack against all of humanity, he asserted.

He reiterated his call for all Ethiopian solidarity associations to replicate the experience throughout the rest of the country as a way to reinforce the message that Cuba is not alone.
