According to the reports, a US convoy of more than 20 empty trucks and several military vehicles entered Syrian territory through the border with Iraq, heading to the aforementioned facility to carry out the withdrawal.
Several cargo planes also landed to transport military equipment to US bases in neighboring Iraq.
Days earlier, The Wall Street Journal, citing three US officials, reported that Washington is preparing to withdraw all of its troops deployed in Syria, estimated at around 1,000 soldiers.
According to these sources, the administration of President Donald Trump considered the US military presence in Syrian territory no longer necessary.
Approximately a week ago, the US Central Command announced the withdrawal of US forces from the Al-Tanf base in eastern Syria and its handover to the Syrian Ministry of Defense, in an operation described as organized and carried out in coordination with national authorities.
Likewise, the Syrian Ministry of Defense’s Media and Communications Department reported that army units assumed control of the Al-Shaddadi military base in Hasakah, following coordination with the US side, as reported by the official SANA news agency.
