The members of this Italian solidarity organization express “outrage and concern” over the incident and alert public opinion in Italy and globally that this “cowardly action reveals the true intentions of its perpetrators,” that is, to create a “pretext for armed aggression against the sovereign island.”
The Cuban Interior Ministry (MININT) informed on February 25 that Cuban border patrol troops repelled an armed attack conducted by a US vessel within its territorial waters.
The official statement reads that a speedboat, registered in Florida, the United States, with registration number FL7726SH, was detected approximately one nautical mile northeast of El Pino channel, in Cayo Falcones, Corralillo municipality, Villa Clara province.
As a five-member Cuban Border Patrol Troops (TGF) unit approached to identify the vessel, the occupants of the speedboat opened fire on the Cuban border patrol officers.
Due to the attack, the TGF vessel’s commander was wounded, and the national forces responded according to legitimate self-defense protocols, resulting in four attackers killed and six injured.
VvThe latter are currently receiving medical treatment in Cuban health institutions.
The Ministry statement reaffirms that the defense of territorial waters is a fundamental pillar of national security and reiterates the Cuban State’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty against any aggression.
