The Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission (CWRC) affirmed in a press release that the measure is illegal and demonstrates a clear bias by Washington toward its leading ally in the region.
All Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal, “according to the 4th Geneva Convention of 1949, which prohibits the occupying power from transferring part of its civilian population to the territory it occupies,” CWRC Chairman Muayyad Shaaban recalled.
Shaaban emphasized that several UN Security Council resolutions and an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice also confirm the illegality of those settlements.
He warned that extending consular services in a settlement violates the principle of non-recognition of illegality, which obliges the States to refrain from any action that formalizes or legitimizes the consequences of serious violations.
