Brazil: FAO Regional Conference focuses on hunger and nutrition

Brasilia, Mar 2 (Prensa Latina) The 39th FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (LARC39) opens on Monday in this capital with technical debates focused on hunger, nutrition, and the sustainable transformation of agri-food systems.

The event, running at the Itamaraty Palace, headquarters of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, brings together government representatives, international organizations, academia, the private sector, and civil society.

Experts consider the meeting essential to defining priorities in the face of the persistent challenges of this geographic region in a context marked by rising food prices, the climate crisis, and increasing inequalities.

The official FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization) website states that this conference is an official forum where member states meet to discuss the challenges and priority issues related to food and agriculture.

The international organization specifies that, as a leading governing body at the regional level, it is essential to guarantee the effectiveness of FAO’s work in service to member states.

Brazil is currently hosting the event, a decision adopted during the previous meeting at this level, the source noted.

The agenda includes a meeting of Senior Officials this Monday and Tuesday, dedicated to technical discussions on public policies, productive innovation, and environmental sustainability.
