Congress voting begins for Colombians abroad

Bogota, Mar 2 (Prensa Latina) Voting for Congress and the inter-party consultations, from which at least three presidential candidates will emerge, begins for Colombian residents abroad, the National Civil Registry informed.

Those living outside the country can exercise their right to vote during this week and until March 8 at the 253 polling stations set up in 67 countries, in which there will be 1,387 voting tables, and this number will increase to 1,945, the entity detailed.

It also noted that 1,250,846 Colombians are eligible to vote abroad: 683,000 women and 567,000 men.

Although those citizens may vote earlier, the results will only be released at the close of voting, on March 8.

The Foreign Ministry informed that, due to the current security situation in Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the opening of polling stations in Tel Aviv and Abu Dhabi would be postponed.

The Interior Ministry issued a decree outlining the necessary measures “for the preservation of public order” during the first round of the Congress and presidential elections, to be held on May 31.
