The FSB stated: “The FSB thwarted a terrorist attack in Yekaterinburg that a Russian citizen was planning to carry out on the orders of Ukrainian special services.”
According to the FSB, the target of the attack was an executive of a defense company in the Sverdlovsk region.
During the attempt to apprehend the suspected perpetrator, who had already retrieved an improvised explosive device (IED) from a cache to detonate in the victim’s vehicle, “the Ukrainian agent monitoring the attack remotely detonated the IED, causing the attacker to sustain life-threatening injuries,” the Russian side explained.
