Unpopular French Prime Minister, but with stable support

Paris, Feb 22 (Prensa Latina) French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu maintains a stable approval rating despite being unpopular with most of his compatriots, according to a poll released today.

According to the CSA survey for Le Journal du Dimanche, the prime minister’s approval rating stood at 30 percent at the end of February. While this has decreased, it is still higher than that of his most recent predecessors and President Emmanuel Macron himself.

Unlike the conservative Michel Barnier and the centrist François Bayrou, prime ministers ousted by the National Assembly in December 2014 and last September, respectively, Lecornu maintains a stable approval rating.

The poll shows that within the ruling Renaissance party, support hovers around 70 percent, while among the Republicans it reaches half.

Unsurprisingly, Lecornu’s leadership is widely rejected within the left, though less so than the unpopularity of Barnier and Bayrou, or that of President Macron.

The prime minister and ally of the head of state has survived several no-confidence votes, thanks to the Socialists’ decision not to support them.
