Sandokan Debebe, Chief Commissioner of Ethiopia’s Nuclear Energy Commission, and Italian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Agostino Palese, discussed the strategic importance of nuclear energy for driving rapid industrialization.
Debebe emphasized that the sector is a critical component for the future of the African nation, providing a reliable, high-capacity electricity supply necessary to sustain energy-intensive industries.
The ambassador also provided information on current local progress in nuclear research and development for peaceful applications.
The diplomat, in turn, highlighted Italy’s extensive historical experience in the field and noted that his government is exploring ways to incorporate nuclear energy into its own future energy mix.
Palese suggested that the synergy between Rome’s technical expertise and Addis Ababa’s development ambitions creates a solid foundation for a mutually beneficial partnership.
