The CGIL, on its official website, calls on its members to join the national demonstration that will take place in the streets of this capital on April 11, as part of an initiative by the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association (ANAIC) and the Gianni Mina Foundation, supported by dozens of organizations.

The statement notes that “this Italian union has historically expressed its solidarity with the Cuban people” and refers to the complex situation currently facing the Caribbean nation due to the tightening of the criminal economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than 60 years.

The document states that the situation has worsened in the last few weeks following the signing of an executive order on January 29 by US President Donald Trump to try to block fuel shipments to that Caribbean nation, which affects its economy and the living conditions of the Cubans.

The text states that due to this measure, “the lack of energy directly threatens essential services such as hospitals, schools, and the production of food and medicine,” as well as the general ability of workers to carry out their jobs.

The April 11 march call also has the support of dozens of important organizations, including the Global Peace Mobilization Network, the Italian Association for Social Promotion (ARCI), the Italian Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba (AICEC), the Union of Base Trade Unions (USB), and the Italian Communist Party (PCI), among other organizations.

This initiative aims to raise funds to finance the installation of solar panels in the Caribbean nation, enabling the continuity of public services, schools, hospitals, cultural centers, and jobs.
