Iran denies Trump’s claims of ceasefire request

Tehran, Apr 2 (Prensa Latina) Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Baghaei rejected on Thursday the remarks made by US President Donald Trump over an alleged ceasefire request from Tehran, calling them groundless.

Baghaei asserted, in statements to Al Jazeera, that “Trump’s claims about a ceasefire lack credibility” and are not based on facts.

The reaction comes after the US president stated that “the new leader of the Iranian regime asked him for a ceasefire” and indicated that he would assess that request once the Strait of Hormuz is reopened.

Iran announced, on March 2, some restrictions on maritime traffic in this strategic waterway, warning that it would attack any vessel attempting to cross it without prior coordination.

The United States and Israel have maintained, since February 28, a military offensive against Iran that has resulted in thousands of deaths and injuries, while Tehran responds with missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory.

Iran has intensified actions against US interests in several Arab countries, some of which have caused casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure, acts condemned by the affected States.
