Lula, interviewed by TV Cidade, criticized this confrontation and remembered his diplomatic efforts in 2010 regarding the Iranian nuclear program.
The president noted that the United States launched an unnecessary war on the Islamic Republic under the pretext that it possessed nuclear weapons or was attempting to acquire them. “That is a lie,” he said.
The head of State expressed such an opinion because he himself was in Iran 16 years ago to reach an agreement that, subsequently, neither the United States nor the European Union accepted.
Lula added, “We reached an agreement allowing Iran to enrich uranium using the same methods as Brazil, because here, our Constitution states that we can only use it for peaceful purposes.”
There are no nuclear weapons there. In other words, if there is a political disagreement among Israel, the United States, and Iran, it does not have to end in war, he said in the interview with TV Cidade.
He stated that Washington and Tel Aviv thought they had ended the war because they killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, but that was not the case.
Lula reiterated his concern about the rising price of diesel in Brazil, a country that relies on imports for 30 percent of its fuel consumption.
