Lebanese Army mourns the deaths of soldiers in Israeli attacks

Beirut, Apr 9 (Prensa Latina) The Lebanese Army mourned the deaths of four of its personnel as a result of an intense wave of Israeli airstrikes that shook the country yesterday.

In a statement, the military institution reported that First Sergeant Hussein Khaled Yassin, Private First Class Mohammad Bassam Shheitli, Private Ali Hassan Qassem, and Cadet Sergeant Ali Nasser El-Din died in the line of duty on April 8, following a bombing attributed to Israel.

According to the official statement, the soldiers perished while carrying out their duties in different regions of the country, amid an escalation of violence affecting several areas of Lebanese territory.

The airstrikes were part of a broad Israeli offensive that impacted areas from the south to the Bekaa Valley, including Beirut and Mount Lebanon, leaving at least 254 dead and 1,165 wounded, according to reports from the Lebanese Civil Defense.

In turns, the Israeli army claimed to have carried out more than 100 airstrikes in a 10-minute period, targeting what it described as residential areas.

In this context, the regional situation remains marked by tensions, despite Wednesday’s announcement of a two-week temporary truce between the United States and Iran, mediated by Pakistan, as a preliminary step toward a possible agreement to end the conflict that began on February 28.

The situation in Lebanon, however, reflects the fragility of the ceasefire and the persistence of pockets of confrontation that threaten to deepen the crisis in the Middle East.
