With a year and a half until the 2027 presidential election, the Executive wants to modify the current regulation on financing, seeking political gain, putting the entire opposition, including political organizations allied with the La Libertad Avanza (Liberty Advances-LLA) party, on alert.

The president announced this statement on his X profile: “Tomorrow we are sending the electoral reform to Congress. We are eliminating the open, simultaneous, and mandatory primaries (PASO): forcing the Argentinians to pay for the internal elections of the elite is enough. We are changing the financing: politics living off your money is over. Clean slate: the Joke is over. Long live freedom, damn it!”

The proposal is part of one of the reform promises the head of State announced on March 1 at the opening of the ordinary sessions of Congress, where he stated that one of the 90 bills the ruling party will send in 2026 involves changing the electoral system.

Among the main changes, Milei proposes eliminating primary elections, an exercise the parties use to choose their candidates for key positions such as governors, president, and vice presidents, thus mitigating internal conflicts.

The Clean Slate law, promoted primarily by his ally, the Partido Republicano (Republican Party-PRO) and the LLA party, will aim to disqualify individuals convicted of corruption from running for national elected public office. It intends to prevent the candidacy of those whose convictions have been upheld on appeal.
