Italy’s police operation dismantles large drug trafficking network

Rome, Apr 24 (Prensa Latina) A large-scale police operation in Italy, carried out by members of the Carabinieri, dismantled a large drug trafficking network operating in several regions of northern Italy, according to a statement released.

A report published on the website of this police force, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Defense, points out that 21 people were arrested during the operation, in the cities of Novara and Vercelli, in the Piedmont region, as well as in Varese, Lombardy, and Imperia, Liguria.

The investigation that led to this major anti-drug operation, dubbed Back Door, was conducted between January and July 2025, coordinated by the Novara Prosecutor’s Office and carried out by the Investigation Unit of the Provincial Command of the Carabineros, with support from the Central Directorate of Anti-Drug Services.

Evidence was obtained through wiretaps, surveillance, monitoring, and tracking, as well as the application of advanced techniques that allowed for the reconstruction of a complex system for the acquisition and distribution of narcotics, the report states.

Those arrested were charged with possession and trafficking of narcotics, specifically cocaine, hashish, and marijuana, as well as extortion and falsification of judicial documents, the source adds.
