According to the Syrian state news agency SANA, the president stressed during a press conference following the summit of EU leaders and regional partners in Nicosia, the Cypriot capital, that the security of Europe and the Middle East is an indivisible geopolitical balance.
In this regard, he held the European bloc responsible for not acting more decisively against Israeli violations of Syrian territory, which, he asserted, threaten the country’s security and stability.
Al-Sharaa also emphasized the interdependence between Syria and Europe and advocated for strengthening the Euro-Arab-Mediterranean partnership as a way to guarantee energy flows and global supply security. The president warned of the risks facing international trade in the current context, particularly given the potential disruption of strategic routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
In his view, the European commitment to Syria’s stability must translate into concrete actions that compel Israel to cease its attacks, while reiterating his country’s willingness to play a constructive role in the region.
The president stated that Syria seeks to consolidate its position as a bridge to security and a key player in the search for solutions, after years of conflict.
In previous statements, he noted that negotiations with Israel are progressing with difficulty due to disagreements over the Israeli presence in Syrian territory, amidst ongoing military actions in the south of the country.
