Iran’s FM says his nation must defend its interests in talks with US

Tehran, Apr 27 (Prensa Latina) Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, affirmed that his country must safeguard its national interests in the upcoming talks with the United States, scheduled to be mediated by Pakistan.

Araghchi underscored, in remarks to national television during his visit to St. Petersburg, the need to guarantee the rights of the Iranian people and protect the country’s interests in any negotiation.

The foreign minister noted that his talks in Russia are intended to identify consultations with Moscow on regional and international issues, as well as strengthen bilateral relations.

The head of Iranian diplomacy exoressed that the meetings with Russian authorities allowed them to examine the latest developments related to the war and assess the current situation, while also highlighting the importance of coordination between the two countries.

Referring to his previous visit to Islamabad, Araghchi described the consultations held with Pakistani authorities as fruitful, focusing on recent events and the conditions necessary to revive the Tehran-Washington talks.

The statements come amid efforts to resume negotiations following the war that started on February 28 between the United States and Israel over Iran.

The conflict resulted in Iranian airstrikes on Israeli targets and US interests in the region.
