Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung ratified this stance during the 25th Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of both regional blocs, held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.
Hoai Trung, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), affirmed, in his remarks, that both his country and ASEAN assess their partnership with the EU.
The foreign minister underscored that the two regions and organizations share many common strategic interests and similar viewpoints on several important issues, the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry’s website informed.
The diplomat added that both are successful models of regional integration, making the continued strengthening of coordination and cooperation between ASEAN and the EU strategically important in the current regional and global context.
Hoai Trung suggested that the parties reinforce strategic dialogue, mutual understanding, and coordination to prevent, manage, and respond to common challenges, as well as exchange views on new methods and areas of cooperation.
