The AAJ noted in a statement to which Prensa Latina has access that Washington has gone from intensifying economic hostilities to threatening military intervention, in clear transgression of international law, the UN Charter, and the principles governing relations between sovereign States.
Under the leadership of Argentine jurist Claudia Rocca, the Association of Legal Experts details in its denunciation the hostile actions, punitive measures, and constant threats made by Trump, and the laws being violated, including those of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).
Remembering that the United States occupies, against the will of the Cuban people, a portion of the eastern province of Guantanamo where a Naval Base operates is imperious.
Therefore, the AAJ reiterates its demand for the definitive closure of the military enclave and the return of that territory to Cuba.
Its statement also remembers Cuba’s historic contribution to solidarity with humanity, its free medical assistance to dozens of countries, its presence in disasters and humanitarian crises, its vaccines and scientific advancements, and its role in training professionals from around the world, even during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The document states, “The international community has a debt of reciprocity to the Cuban people that cannot be ignored.”
Responding to this grave and dangerous situation that threatens Cuba, the peace of the continent, and the international order, the AAJ strongly condemns the threats to take military control of Cuba publicly expressed by President Trump.
