Cuban FM denounces US military threats against the Island

Havana, May 5 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, denounced today that the U.S. government insists on military action against the island under pretext of "liberating" it, and called such statements cynical and hypocritical.

“The #US government insists that it intends to take military action against #Cuba because the country is devastated… and it would be an honor to free it,” said the Foreign Minister in his social network account X.

Rodriguez stressed that the cynicism and hypocrisy of such a stance lies in the fact that for decades the US has been trying to devastate Cuba through economic war.

The head of Cuban diplomacy pointed out that the current administration has done so even more strenuously in recent months, through two Executive Orders which he described as genocidal.

“Both the economic and energy blockade, and the new extraterritorial coercive measures; as well as the threat of military aggression and the aggression itself are international crimes,” said the minister.

For more than six decades, the United States has been enforcing an economic, commercial, and financial blockade against the Caribbean country.

It was tightened last January by an executive order signed by US President Donald Trump.

The lack of access to fuels resulting from this recrudescence affects such sensitive areas as electricity generation, hospital operations, food production and distribution, and water pumping in the Island.

Last Friday, Trump announced further coercive measures against the island, declared his intention to take control of the Antillean nation “almost immediately,” and said that, following the war in Iran, he might send the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln about 100 yards (91.44 meters) off the coast.
