Iran prioritizes end of war, dismisses hostility to neighbors

Tehran, May 5 (Prensa Latina) The spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baghaei, said today that his country focuses its efforts on ending the ongoing conflict and reiterated that it has no hostility towards any of its neighbors, in particular the Gulf states.

Speaking to a local channel, the spokesperson noted that the current situation is causing concern for both the Iranian people and the region and international community, reinforcing the need to move toward a solution that ends hostilities.

Baghaei warned that the US military presence in the region constitutes a factor of insecurity and a risk for countries hosting US bases.

He also stressed that Tehran’s relations with the Arab nations of the Gulf are based on mutual respect and shared interests, and reiterated that Iran does not hold hostile positions towards these countries.

The spokesman added that, in light of previos experiences, his country is not willing to prolong complex discussions without clear prospects for resolution.

The statements come in the context of tensions derived from the conflict that began at the end of February, which has left thousands of victims and impacted regional stability, amid military exchanges and attacks on facilities and interests in several countries.
