During a press briefing commemorating World Press Freedom Day (May 3), Tshisekedi stated that, although he has not sought another term leading the country, “if the people want me to have a third term, I will accept it,” he said.

The president added that the responsibility he assumed toward the Congolese people is not limited to what he will do during his time as a head of State, “but also includes preparing future generations.”

He mentioned his desire to collaborate to facilitate the work of his successor, declaring that he would be at his disposal after his term ends.

Although he emphasized that his leading objective is the restoration of stability and dignity in the DRC, Tshisekedi expressed support for any consideration of amending the Constitution through a referendum and called for addressing the issue with seriousness, transparency, and rigor.
