Marilena Grassadonia, national secretary of the Italian Left party, told Il Fatto Quotidiano newspaper that the US blockade has the genocidal objective of destroying an entire people, “slowly extinguishing them.”
Grassadonia, who is also the head of Rights and Freedoms for that opposition party, recounted her recent experiences on the island after participating in the second European Convoy that, as part of the “Let Cuba Breathe” campaign, delivered a shipment of solidarity aid.
The participants in that initiative visited several communities in eastern Cuba and marched during a May Day demonstration in Havana.
Italian legislator Dario Carotenuto denounced the increased US pressure against Cuba before the Italian Parliament and criticized the current passivity of Meloni administration in the face of the blockade and threats against the Caribbean country.
Carotenuto, a lawmaker of the Five-Star Movement (M5S), referred to the grave consequences for the Cuban people of the tightening of those actions, following US President Donald Trump’s approval of an executive order to block the entry of fuel into that country.
Around that time, representatives of the Cuban community residing in Italy delivered open letters to the Italian Parliament and Government, as well as Pope Leo XIV, denouncing the tightening of US attacks on Cuba and reaffirming that their people are resisting with firmness, dignity, and commitment in the defense of their homeland.
