Talent and national identity at Nicaraguan Percussion Festival

Managua, May 11 (Prensa Latina) Nicaragua's capital city overflowed with national talent during the First Percussion Festival "Drums and Marimba," an event that celebrated the identity and musical richness that distinguishes the Central American country.

More than 700 musicians gathered this weekend in Revolution Square for a day filled with color and tradition, where thousands of spectators enjoyed the rhythm of drums, percussion instruments, and marimbas, the latter considered a fundamental instrument in Nicaraguan folk music.

Organized by Managua City Hall, the festival brought together not only drummers and marimba players, but also musical groups and rhythm bands from various parts of the capital.

“This space reaffirms the commitment of the Sandinista Government, through the Municipality of Managua, to create platforms for the artistic and cultural promotion of Nicaraguans,” the Director of Culture and Historical Heritage for the Mayor’s Office, Pedro Pablo Castillo, told the press.

Invited artists emphasized the importance of this cultural gathering and highlighted how Nicaragua is strengthening a musical dynamic that integrates traditional instruments such as the conga drum and the marimba with the drum set, fusing tradition and modernity in expressions of national identity.
