Uruguay urges intensification of flu vaccination campaign

Montevideo, May 11 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) urged the population to get vaccinated against the flu, given the early arrival of winter with low temperatures and an increase in respiratory illnesses.

The MSP reported that more than 408,000 doses have already been administered as part of the influenza vaccination campaign in Uruguay.

The Ministry also indicated that approximately 200,000 vaccines remain available.

In a statement, the MSP noted that the goal is “to reach winter with the majority of the population protected,” at a time when seasonal respiratory illnesses begin to rise.

The Ministry reiterated that the flu vaccine helps prevent complications and reduce pressure on the healthcare system, and therefore considers the coming weeks “key” to continuing the immunization campaign.

The Ministry of Public Health reiterated that the vaccine is free and universally available, and can be received at both public and private vaccination centers throughout the country.

“Getting vaccinated now is a way for all of us to take care of each other. If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, now is the time,” the statement concludes.
