In a public statement, it noted that “Cuba is not, nor has it ever been, a threat to the security of the United States. Cuba has never engaged in any activity that contravenes the peace and security of the American people.”

  The foundation maintained that the island has always proclaimed its desire for peace and its willingness to reach an understanding with the United States, on the sole condition that its national sovereignty and right to self-determination be respected, in order to maintain the political and social system that its people decided to support since the triumph of the Revolution in 1959.

  In this regard, it deplored the recent accusation by the United States against the leader of the Revolution, Raul Castro, whom it accuses of the downing, 30 years ago, of two small planes that knowingly violated Cuban airspace for political purposes, despite prior warnings from the relevant authorities.

  The Cuban government affirmed that its response to the violation of its airspace was an act of legitimate self-defense, protected by the Charter of the United Nations and other international conventions.

  The foundation maintained that this accusation is part of a strategy by Washington aimed at creating conditions for a possible military aggression against Cuba, and therefore expressed its rejection of both the accusation and its purpose.

  Reiterating its solidarity with Cuba, the organization called on the Dominican people to continue rejecting US aggression against the sister Caribbean nation.
