Syrian President rules out intervention in Lebanon

Damascus, Jun 14 (Prensa Latina) Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa rejected accusations of his country's interference in Lebanon's domestic affairs and announced that both nations have decided to postpone detailed talks on the demarcation of their borders.

In a meeting in Damascus with a delegation of prominent figures and personalities from the rural areas of the Syrian capital, Al-Sharaa stated that Lebanon is going through a sensitive period due to the consequences of the war with Israel, a situation that also affects Syria.

The president explained that the demarcation of the border between the two countries has been an outstanding issue since the creation of the Lebanese state and described the matter as a complex issue that requires more favorable conditions for its resolution.

According to him, Lebanese authorities have raised the issue on several occasions, but Damascus believes there are more urgent priorities in the bilateral relationship, including strengthening economic ties and cooperation for development.

Al-Sharaa maintained that relations between Syria and Lebanon have been marked in the past by mutual interventions and affirmed that his government seeks to build a new era based on respect for sovereignty and shared interests.

The Syrian president pointed out that the issue of the Shebaa Farms adds complexity to the demarcation process, given that part of that territory remains under Israeli occupation and differences persist between Syrians and Lebanese regarding its status.

He also mentioned the existence of technical problems related to overlapping populations and border areas, warning that opening this case under the current circumstances could generate new tensions between the two countries.
