Brazil’s Senate analyzes bill to create Sports University

Brasilia, Jun 16 (Prensa Latina) Brazil's Federal Senate will analyze a bill to create the Federal Sports University (UFEsporte), an initiative promoted by the Executive Branch to strengthen teaching, research, and innovation in this area.

The proposal will be debated during a hybrid session of the Senate, scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. local time, the Senate Agency reported.

According to Bill 6.133/2025, the new institution will be headquartered in Brasilia, although it will have the possibility of expanding its academic activities to other states in the federation.

UFEsporte would be the first federal institution of higher education focused specifically on sports science.

The text establishes that the university will be oriented towards promoting professional training, scientific research, university extension programs, and technological innovation related to sports and physical activity. The initiative has already been approved by the Chamber of Deputies and received a favorable opinion from the Senate’s Sports Committee.

If approved by the full Senate, the legislation will be sent to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for his signature.
