Russia and Iran coordinate actions at UN to lift sanctions

Moscow, Jun 18 (Prensa Latina) Moscow and Tehran are coordinating their actions at the United Nations to lift all sanctions on Iran, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov told Izvestia newspaper.

Alimov explained that the outcome of one of the biggest conflicts in the Middle East in the last decades occurred early Thursday, two days ahead of schedule, as the United States and Iran separately signed the consensual memorandum of understanding, and one of the most intriguing points is the possible lifting of sanctions on Tehran.

The Group of Friends in Defense of the United Nations Charter met this week in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe. In addition to Russia and Iran, 16 other countries, including China, participated in the event.

One of the group’s recurring agenda items is the fight against illegal sanctions, particularly those on Iran.

The deputy foreign minister emphasized that the dialogue is focused on unacceptable unilateral restrictions. “The work is progressing, and we are working together with Iran at the UN,” he underscored.

The next phase of negotiations between Tehran and Washington includes the issue of lifting unilateral sanctions.
