Copa Airlines temporarily suspends flights between Panama and Caracas

Panama City, Jun 25 (Prensa Latina) Copa Airlines announced the temporary suspension of its flights between Panama and Caracas due to the damage caused at Simon Bolivar International Airport in Maiquetia, following the earthquakes that struck Venezuela yesterday.

The Panamanian flag carrier reported in a statement that flights scheduled for Wednesday night, June 24, and throughout the day on Thursday between Tocumen International Airport (PTY) and Caracas (CCS) were canceled as a preventive measure.

However, the company indicated that, for the time being, its schedules to and from the rest of the destinations it serves in the South American nation remain unchanged, even though Venezuelan airspace is temporarily closed.

Copa Airlines stated that it will conduct a new assessment of the situation today to determine if additional measures are necessary, which will be communicated to passengers and the general public in due course.

Panama also activated a flexible policy for travelers with issued tickets and recommended checking their flight status through its website or mobile app before heading to the airport, as well as staying tuned to official channels for updates.

Following the earthquakes, Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino expressed his solidarity with the Venezuelan people in the face of the devastating 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that shook several regions of the country, leaving 164 dead and more than 900 injured, as well as causing landslides and severe infrastructure damage.

In a message shared on social media, the president expressed Panama’s support for the South American nation, now in a state of emergency due to the tragedy caused by the natural disaster.
