Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters: “The Romanian ambassador has been called to the Russian Foreign Ministry, to be notified of the measures taken in response to the closure of the consulate general in Constanta.”
Romanian President Nicusor Dan announced that Russian Consul General in Constanta, Andrei Kosilin, has been declared persona non grata and the Russian consulate general in that city would be closed.
The Romanian Defense Ministry informed on May 29 that a drone crashed into the roof of a house in the city of Galati, near the borders with Ukraine and Moldova, injuring two people.
Following the incident, Romanian authorities blamed Russia without presenting any evidence and decided to close the Russian consulate general in Constanta.
Upon commenting on the situation, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that it is not possible to determine the origin of the drones found in Romanian territory without a technical investigation.
Putin also affirmed that Russia is prepared to participate in an objective investigation if it receives verifiable information about what happened.
