The statement noted that the meeting in Brussels was chaired by Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic.

Both sides agreed that the mechanism seeks to strengthen political dialogue on trade and investment at the ministerial level, stabilize bilateral relations, and favor a balance in economic ties.

The Chinese Commerce Ministry informed during the meeting that both sides emphasized the importance of properly addressing the challenges affecting their trade and economic relations, as well as seeking viable solutions.

The mechanism initially established four areas of work related to trade and investment balance, export controls, intellectual property, and reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Wang and Sefcovic authorized their officials to maintain communication on these areas and agreed to hold another ministerial meeting in the fall of 2026.
