“The UN General Assembly is scheduled to debate the US government’s genocidal blockade against Cuba, which has lasted more than 60 years,” stated The People’s Forum—the organization behind the initiative—on the social media platform X, accompanying a video of the billboard.
It noted that since President Donald Trump “implemented the additional, strangling fuel blockade in January, blackouts have become common and hospitals are rationing energy, yet the Cuban people continue to resist despite the US government’s attempts to suffocate them.”
“Cuba is not a threat; the blockade is the threat! Let Cuba live,” emphasized the New York-based group.
In recent statements to Prensa Latina, Cuba’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ernesto Soberon, denounced the extremely harmful humanitarian impact of Washington’s unilateral coercive measures against his country.
He explained that the plenary session taking place at the General Assembly will reopen “Agenda Item 38, regarding the blockade.”
The Cuban diplomat emphasized that the debate would take place in light of current events: the economic war against the country, the fuel blockade, threats of aggression, and the executive orders with extraterritorial impact signed in recent months by President Trump.
Upon announcing last week that the session would be held at Cuba’s request, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez denounced the US multidimensional aggression against the island, stating that it “it’s not an impending danger or a future threat; it is a crime against humanity currently in progress.”
