During the debate on the need to end this policy, Nicaragua’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Jaime Hermida, conveyed greetings to Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla and reaffirmed the solidarity of the Nicaraguan government and people with the Caribbean nation.
The diplomat expressed Managua’s support for Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, Revolution leader Raúl Castro, the Communist Party of Cuba, and the historic leadership of the revolutionary process.
Hermida stated that Nicaragua has condemned the U.S. blockade in “categorical and vigorous” terms, deeming it a violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the right to development.
He also denounced the intensification of unilateral coercive measures, financial persecution, and the energy blockade, noting that these actions aim to undermine the independence and the right of the Cuban people to freely determine their own destiny.
The Nicaraguan representative maintained that the restrictions imposed by Washington have impacted access to food, medicines, fuel, electricity, transportation, and financing, affecting public services, production, and the daily lives of the population.
In his remarks, he also warned of what he described as threats of possible military aggression against Cuba and rejected any use or threat of the use of force against the island.
