In a statement released on social media, the organization described this policy as a “criminal siege” and asserted that its purpose is to force the Cuban people to surrender through hunger and deprivation, though it maintained that this objective “has not been and will not be achieved.”

  The statement noted that, in the face of difficulties stemming from the blockade, Cubans living in Nicaragua are redoubling their efforts of solidarity and support for the Caribbean nation.

It also recalled Cuba’s tradition of solidarity with other peoples and highlighted that the island has always shared its resources with nations in need.

  In this context, the association announced the upcoming shipment of aid intended for the purchase of solar panels for Cuba, aiming to help address the energy crisis affecting the country.

“We respond to imperial threats with greater unity and solidarity,” the statement read.

  The UN General Assembly supported Cuba—by a majority of 136 votes (with nine against and 30 abstentions)—in opposing the United States’ attempt to block a debate on the humanitarian consequences of the policy of strangulation imposed on the island to overthrow its political system.

  The debate highlighted the urgency and gravity of the situation Cuba faces due to the unprecedented intensification of Washington’s hostile policy, which includes the threat of military aggression.

  During the session, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez denounced the escalation of the pressure policy exerted by Washington against the island.

  The foreign minister stated that the United States is waging a “multidimensional and unconventional war” against Cuba and warned of the tightening of the energy blockade through actions aimed at preventing fuel supplies from reaching the country.    

Rodriguez expressed that these measures affect the functioning of essential services and have a direct impact on the daily lives of the Cuban population, while reiterating that the blockade is a policy of economic strangulation that causes severe humanitarian consequences.
