The Caribbean nation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) shared the celebration of this more than half-century of bonds “alongside the people and government of the sister” African nation on the social network X.     “We reaffirm our will to continue strengthening the historic and fraternal ties of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation that unite us,” the Cuban Foreign Ministry stated in the post.

  Cuba and Ethiopia have maintained uninterrupted diplomatic relations since July 18, 1975—relations marked by a deep brotherhood forged during the most pivotal moments in the contemporary history of both peoples, notes the website of the Caribbean country’s foreign ministry.

  These ties are described as an example of South-South cooperation and an expression of internationalist solidarity, mutual commitment, and the defense of fundamental principles such as the self-determination of peoples, sovereignty, and social justice.

  Ethiopia has expressed firm support for Cuba, consistently joining in the condemnation of the blockade imposed by the United States. At the same time, it acknowledges the selfless and deeply solidary nature of the support provided by Cuba, even during the most difficult times.

  Last June, President Miguel Diaz-Canel congratulated Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and the Prosperity Party on their electoral victory. In a social media post, the Cuban head of state reaffirmed “the determination to continue strengthening the historic relations of brotherhood and cooperation that unite our peoples and governments.”
