Cuba exhibits classic film posters on Guevara’s 100th birthday

Holguin, Cuba, Jul 17 (Prensa Latina) The graphic design project CartelON opened an exhibition at the House of Culture in this city, featuring 10 classic film posters in homage to the 100th birthday of Cuban intellectual Alfredo Guevara.

The original selection of works was part of a survey by Sight and Sound magazine, in which the filmmaker clarified that a work of art is the work of an author and ennobles the creators who enriched cinema.

To mark his 100th birthday on December 31, the group exhibition revisits film history through graphic pieces that reflect the perspectives and aesthetic tastes of the founder of the island’s film institution.

The iconographic collection features posters for landmark films such as “El Acorazado Potemkin” (Sergei M. Eisenstein), which also celebrated its 100th birthday, “Modern Times” (Charles Chaplin), “Los Olvidados” (Luis Bunuel), and “Sin Aliento” (Jean-Luc Godard).

The Italian Neorealism is represented by the films “Umberto D” (Vittorio De Sica) and “La Calle” (Federico Fellini), and Latin American cinema is represented by the Brazilian film “Dios y el Diablo en la Tierra del Sol” (Glauber Rocha).

Ruben Ricardo Infante, press officer for the Gibara International Low-Budget Film Festival, noted that the exhibition is an ideal way to revisit the aesthetic perspectives of a key figure in audiovisual media who dedicated his life to this art.
