Xi made these remarks after presiding over a collective study session of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), dedicated to the modernization of defense and the Army.

The president affirmed that strengthening defense is an essential component of China’s modernization and must provide a solid strategic support for building a strong country and national rejuvenation.
On the eve of Army Day, Xi, on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the Central Military Commission, conveyed his congratulations to the officers and soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the People’s Armed Police (PAP), civilian personnel of the armed forces, reservists, and militias.
