Brazil solidifies growth in international tourism

Brasilia, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) Brazil ranked fourth among countries with the largest increases in international tourist arrivals between 2019 and 2025, recording a growth of 46 percent, according to media reports citing an official document.

*Tourism Trends and Policies 2026* report, released by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), compared the sector’s performance prior to the COVID-19 pandemic with results from last year.

According to the document—as reported by Agencia Brasil—the South American giant went from receiving 6.3 million international tourists in 2019 to 9.3 million in 2025.

The text highlighted that this expansion significantly surpassed that of traditional destinations such as Japan (which grew by 34 percent), Portugal (20 percent), Spain (16 percent), and France (12 percent).

Within the South American context, Brazil’s performance also stood out by recording a sharp rise in visitor arrivals, whereas neighboring nations like Argentina and Peru experienced declines of 23 percent and 22 percent, respectively.

Bruno Reis, president of the Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion (Embratur), stated that the results reflect the country’s strengthened presence in the global market and align with other recent indicators for the sector.

The OECD considers tourism a key driver of job creation, investment, and regional development, while recommending that governments strengthen policies focused on sustainability, destination diversification, and resilience in the face of future crises.
